Water Testing
The Big Kandiyohi Board of Directors is looking into testing the incoming water entering the lake this upcoming summer. Water samples will be taken and tested by an independent laboratory to see what contaminants, fertilizers, or other unwanted items are entering our lake. The goal is to set a baseline of what our major issues may be, and just how we can address them. We will be contacting a local laboratory to get an idea of what is needed for samples, and what the cost will be per sample. We will then determine a timeline and locations for sampling. The results of these samples can be used to compare our lake to other lakes in the area, as well as, other watersheds.

Fish Sticks
Fish Stick Project: One of our projects that the Board of Directors has been working on is called the "fish stick" project. We brought it to your attention last fall at our annual membership meeting. At our board meeting on January 11, 2017, this project was discussed with Dave Coahran from the DNR. He seemed to be interested in it because the fish sticks projects, done aound the state ,seem to have had a positive result for the lake habitat. He also stated that he would be willing to work with us and see the project thru. Unfortunately, they have no money available to allocate towards it, so we filled out an application form and submitted it for grant monies. Hopefully we will know if we will receive the funds in mid March. We will need a number of property owners permission to use their land adjacent to the lake.
If anyone would be willing to work with us and "lease" a section of land that would be wonderful. We are looking at doing a number of sites around the lake if the monies become available If you want more information on what this project entails, you might check out our link on the link page.
